Product Description

½-Inch Freeze Protection Valve – 00011082

The Encon 00011082 is a self-actuating ½-inch NPT freeze protection valve for compatible Encon emergency shower and eyewash installations. It is the valve component used in the Encon 03900006 Freeze Protection Valve Assembly with Strainer Tee.

The valve begins opening at 35°F (1.7°C) to initiate discharge as temperatures approach freezing. Once flow is established and warmer supply water reaches the thermal actuator, the valve fully closes at 40°F (4.4°C). Operation is entirely mechanical and requires no electrical power, wiring, external sensor, or control signal.

Replacement valve for compatible Encon systems

Use the 00011082 when the freeze protection valve in a compatible Encon installation requires replacement and the existing strainer tee and associated fittings remain suitable for continued service.

This product includes the freeze protection valve only. It does not include the Encon strainer tee, removable strainer cap, screen, strainer O-ring, close nipple, accessory tee, cross fitting, or other installation fittings.

For a complete Encon retrofit and replacement assembly that includes a serviceable 16-mesh strainer tee, specify product 03900006.

How the temperature-controlled valve operates

In the standard-flow configuration, the internal thermal actuator initially responds to the ambient temperature surrounding the valve. When the sensed temperature falls to 35°F (1.7°C), the valve begins opening and establishes discharge flow.

After flow begins, the actuator responds to the temperature of the water passing through the valve. As warmer supply water reaches the actuator, the valve fully closes at 40°F (4.4°C). This automatic operating cycle helps move colder water out of exposed piping without relying on personnel to open or close a manual drain valve.

Corrosion-resistant valve construction

The valve incorporates a two-piece 300-series stainless steel body with stainless steel operating components. Internal construction includes a stainless steel operating spring, ram-type plug, seat insert, EPDM seals, and an FEP-encapsulated Viton® seat seal.

The accompanying technical drawing and parts-and-materials chart identify the internal valve components and material categories. The chart describes the thermal actuator and actuator carrier as brass or stainless steel; it should not be interpreted as specifying one exclusive actuator material for every individual valve.

Installation and maintenance considerations

Confirm that the 00011082 is compatible with the installed Encon equipment before replacement. When the valve is installed within assembly 03900006, follow Encon IOM 01999964, Revision B for assembly orientation, station compatibility, accessory fitting requirements, installation, and station testing.

  • Shut off the station water supply and relieve pressure before removing the existing valve.
  • Flush the piping before installing the replacement valve.
  • Observe the flow-direction arrow marked on the valve.
  • When installed within the Encon 03900006 exterior-drain assembly, ensure the completed assembly’s flow arrow points downward toward the discharge location.
  • Use the valve’s wrench flats and an appropriate pipe wrench during installation.
  • Use an appropriate pipe-thread sealant while preventing excess sealant from entering the flow path.
  • Route discharge to an appropriate drain or disposal location.
  • After installation, inspect all threaded connections for leakage.
  • Activate the complete emergency station and verify its proper flow pattern and water volume.

Encon instructs facilities to activate plumbed emergency units weekly to flush the lines and verify proper flow pattern and volume. Maintain test records according to the facility’s inspection and compliance procedures. This weekly activation requirement applies to the complete emergency station, not to disassembly of the freeze protection valve.

FAQs

Is the 00011082 a complete freeze protection assembly?

No. The 00011082 is the freeze protection valve only. It does not include the Encon strainer tee, screen, removable cap, O-ring, close nipple, or accessory installation fittings.

Which Encon assembly uses this valve?

The 00011082 is the valve component used in the Encon 03900006 ½-Inch Freeze Protection Valve Assembly with Strainer Tee.

At what temperature does the valve begin opening?

The valve begins opening at 35°F (1.7°C).

At what temperature does the valve close?

The valve fully closes at 40°F (4.4°C) as warmer water reaches the thermal actuator.

Does the valve require electricity?

No. The valve is self-actuating and requires no electrical power, wiring, external sensor, or control signal.

Does the valve sense air temperature or water temperature?

In its standard-flow configuration, the actuator initially responds to ambient temperature. Once discharge flow begins, the actuator responds to the temperature of the water passing through the valve.

Is a strainer included?

No. The 00011082 is supplied as the valve-only replacement component. For an Encon assembly incorporating a serviceable 16-mesh strainer tee, specify product 03900006.

What is the correct installation direction?

Follow the flow-direction arrow marked on the valve. When the valve is installed within the Encon 03900006 exterior-drain assembly, the completed assembly must be oriented with the arrow pointing downward toward the discharge location.

Is 300 psig the recommended emergency-station supply pressure?

No. The 300 psig value is the maximum operating-pressure rating of the valve component. For installations covered by Encon IOM 01999964, the recommended dynamic, or flowing, station pressure is 30–80 psi.

Can this valve be used in any general-purpose piping system?

This product is positioned as a replacement component for compatible Encon emergency shower and eyewash freeze protection installations. Confirm compatibility with Encon before using it in another configuration.
