Product Description
Swing Away® Eyewash – 10.5" / 26.67 cm Arm Length (01040128)
The Encon Swing Away® Counter-Top Eyewash (01040128) is an emergency eyewash station designed to mount at the side of a laboratory sink and rotate over the basin for use. The unit is specified as third-party certified to ANSI Z358.1 and specified to deliver 2.4 gpm (9.1 lpm) at 30–70 psi flowing pressure. Use it where a sink-mounted eyewash supports fast access, controlled drainage, and repeatable weekly activation as part of a lab safety program.
Highlights
- Laboratory, side-of-sink mounting with eyewash heads that rotate 90° over the sink to open the valve and start flow
- 10.5" (26.67 cm) Swing Away® arm; specified to swivel the eyewash 4" (10.16 cm) over the sink
- Flow specification: 2.4 gpm (9.1 lpm) at 30–70 psi flowing pressure
- Head protection: acetal dual-stream heads with integral hinged covers
- Connections: 1/2" NPT supply
- Included items: countertop actuator with actuation graphic and a 7" x 11" (17.8 cm x 27.9 cm) sign
Laboratory Environment & Use Cases
- Bench and lab sink locations where eyewash equipment must share space with standard sink use
- Rooms where the eyewash should stay out of the basin until needed, then rotate into position for irrigation
- Programs that require documented routine activation to verify flow pattern and volume at the point of use
How the Swing Away® Mechanism Functions
- The station mounts at the side of a laboratory sink or other suitable location.
- Rotate the eyewash heads 90° over the sink to open the valve and allow water to flow.
- Rotate the assembly back 90° to the stored position to stop flow.
- Integral hinged covers help inhibit dust and contamination when the unit is not in use.
Standards Guidance (U.S.)
- ANSI/ISEA Z358.1 context: Emergency eyewash equipment programs commonly address access, routine activation/testing, and a flushing duration appropriate to the hazard assessment (often planned around a 15-minute irrigation period).
- Selection note from the manufacturer: Where hazardous materials injurious to skin are used, an eyewash or eye/facewash installation with an emergency shower should be considered.

Installation & Maintenance Notes (program fit)
- Activation verification: Encon’s IOM states plumbed units should be activated weekly to flush lines and verify proper flow pattern and volume, with records maintained.
- Supply pressure note: The IOM lists recommended minimum dynamic pressure of 30 psi and maximum of 80 psi at the inlet connection.
- Upstream components: The IOM recommends a shut-off valve upstream for maintenance; a pressure regulator and/or strainer (by others) where necessary.

FAQs
Is Model 01040128 certified to ANSI Z358.1?
The Encon specification sheet states the unit is third party certified to ANSI Z358.1. Keep the current spec and IOM with your eyewash inspection and documentation records.
How is the eyewash activated?
The IOM describes rotating the eyewash heads 90° over the sink, which opens the valve and starts water flow. Rotating back to the stored position stops flow.
What flow does this model provide?
The specification sheet lists 2.4 gpm (9.1 lpm) at 30–70 psi flowing pressure, using self-adjusting regulators.
Can it be configured for left-hand mounting?
The specification sheet states the unit includes a right-hand countertop actuator and can be set up for left-hand mounting by reversing the swing stop. The IOM includes orientation change steps.
What routine checks does Encon call out?
The IOM states plumbed units should be activated weekly to flush lines and verify proper flow pattern and volume, and that test records should be maintained.
