Product Description

Swing Away® Eyewash – 12.5" / 31.75 cm Arm Length (01040127)

The Encon Swing Away® Counter-Top Eyewash (01040127) is a laboratory eyewash station that mounts at the side of a sink and swings into the basin for emergency flushing. This 12.5" radius configuration is built for countertop layouts that need more reach to position the spray pattern over the sink while keeping the unit stowed out of the basin during normal lab work. The Encon spec sheet states third-party certification to ANSI Z358.1 and a 2.4 gpm (9.1 lpm) eyewash flow specification at 30–70 psi flowing pressure.

Highlights

  • 12.5" (31.75 cm) Swing Away® arm for longer reach at side-of-sink installations
  • Activation by rotation: rotate heads 90° over the sink to open the valve and start flow; rotate back to stop
  • Flow specification: 2.4 gpm (9.1 lpm) at 30–70 psi flowing pressure (as specified)
  • Head protection: hinged covers help inhibit dust/contamination when not in use
  • Construction: polished chrome plated brass valve and piping; solvent-resistant acetal eyewash heads (as specified)
  • Includes countertop actuator graphic and 7" x 11" safety sign (as specified)

Laboratory Fit and Layout Considerations

  • Side-of-sink mounting: intended for lab sinks where the eyewash must drain into the basin during activation.
  • Swing radius planning: the 12.5" arm is used when the eyewash must reach farther into the sink while maintaining clearance for rotation.
  • Access visibility: plan signage and lighting so the station is easy to locate during an emergency.

How the Swing Away® Station Operates

  • Mount the station at the side of the sink (countertop installation per Encon IOM).
  • In an emergency, rotate the eyewash heads 90° to the ON position over the sink to open the valve and start flushing.
  • After use/testing, rotate the assembly back 90° to the OFF position to stop flow and return the heads to the stored location.
  • Hinged head covers are designed to remain in place when the unit is stored and to help keep the outlets protected.

Standards Guidance (U.S. – ANSI/ISEA Z358.1 context)

  • Product certification statement: the Encon spec sheet states this model is third-party certified to ANSI Z358.1.
  • Program alignment: ANSI/ISEA Z358.1 guidance commonly addresses accessibility, routine activation/testing, and planning for adequate flushing duration based on the hazard assessment.
  • Hazard-based selection: where hazardous materials injurious to skin are present, Encon notes that an eyewash or eye/facewash installation with an emergency shower should be considered.

Inspection and Maintenance Notes (from Encon IOM)

  • Routine activation: Encon states plumbed units should be activated weekly to flush lines and verify proper flow pattern and volume, with records maintained.
  • Upstream maintenance access: Encon recommends an upstream shut-off valve for future maintenance; a pressure regulator and/or strainer (by others) where necessary.
  • Supply pressure note (IOM): recommended minimum dynamic pressure 30 psi and maximum 80 psi at the inlet connection.
  • Left-hand orientation: the IOM includes steps to change from right-hand (factory supplied) to left-hand configuration.

FAQs

What is the difference between the 12.5" and 10.5" Swing Away® versions?

The primary difference is the arm length (radius). Model 01040127 is the 12.5" (31.75 cm) configuration for layouts that need additional reach to position the eyewash over the sink.

How do you activate this eyewash station?

Encon’s IOM describes activation by rotating the eyewash heads 90° over the sink. This opens the valve and starts flow. Rotate back to return to the OFF position.

What flow is specified for Model 01040127?

The Encon spec sheet lists 2.4 gpm (9.1 lpm) at 30–70 psi flowing pressure, using self-adjusting regulators.

Can this unit be installed for left-hand use?

Yes. The Encon spec sheet indicates right-hand supply as provided and notes left-hand mounting by reversing the swing stop. The IOM provides steps to change the valve orientation for left-hand configuration.

What routine checks should a lab program plan for?

Encon states plumbed units should be activated weekly to flush lines and verify the flow pattern and volume, and that test records should be maintained.
