The Encon 01050274 wheelchair accessible combination shower and eyewash is a floor-mounted, plumbed emergency fixture that combines a 30 gpm overhead drench shower with a 3.5 gpm dual-stream eyewash in a high-visibility ABS Yello-Bowl®. This barrier-free unit is built for wheelchair use and features schedule 80 hot dip galvanized steel piping, chrome-plated bronze stay-open ball valves, stainless steel actuators with actuation graphics, and self-adjusting flow regulation for dependable emergency flushing performance.

Construction and Configuration

This unit uses schedule 80 hot dip galvanized steel piping with a flanged floor mounting plate for free-standing installation. The shower valve is 1 in. and the eyewash valve is 1/2 in. Both are configured as stay-open ball valves for emergency activation. The materials listing specifies chrome-plated bronze valve bodies with chrome-plated balls, stainless steel valve stems, a stainless steel push plate with actuation graphic for the eyewash, and a stainless steel pull rod assembly with actuation graphic for the shower.

The eyewash assembly includes an ABS plastic dual-stream eyewash head mounted in a high-visibility ABS Yello-Bowl®. The overhead shower uses a yellow ABS plastic showerhead. Self-adjusting regulators are provided for both the shower and the eyewash to maintain the specified flushing performance.

Performance and Operation

The shower delivers 30 gpm (113.6 lpm) and the eyewash delivers 3.5 gpm (13.2 lpm) under 30–70 psi (206.8–482.6 kPa) flowing pressure. The eyewash regulator is specified to maintain a constant and even dual-stream flow pattern under those hydraulic conditions. The showerhead is designed to deliver a minimum 20 in. diameter pattern to the target area 60 in. above standing level, and the combination unit is specified to provide a non-injurious stream of water for 15 minutes or longer.

Applications

This wheelchair accessible combination unit is suited for industrial plants, utility areas, maintenance spaces, and other work environments where both full-body drenching and immediate eye flushing may be required in a barrier-free emergency station layout.
